About this Album
Released in 1964, The Times They Are A-Changin’ is Bob Dylan’s third studio album and his first to feature only original compositions. Stark, stripped-down, and searingly political, the album captures the voice of a young songwriter who had become the unofficial spokesperson of a restless generation.
With just his acoustic guitar and harmonica, Dylan delivers songs that confront injustice, poverty, racism, and war. The title track became an anthem for the civil rights movement and a rallying cry for societal upheaval. Other standout tracks like “With God on Our Side,” “Only a Pawn in Their Game,” and “The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll” are chilling portraits of systemic oppression and moral ambiguity.
Unlike the more romantic and poetic musings of his earlier work, this album is unapologetically direct. It’s not just a collection of songs—it’s a document of protest, a snapshot of the early 1960s, and a warning that change was not only inevitable, but already in motion.
